Yandex Can Now Spot AI Garbage With 99% Accuracy. Now What?
Yandex Webmaster came out and said it straight: they updated their algorithms, and now the system detects low-quality and AI content with 99% accuracy. Five out of five on the "how much this matters" scale, and the source is Yandex itself. This isn't forum gossip. This is a direct statement from the exact side that ranks your site.
And you know what actually gets me about this? Not the news itself — it was expected — but how many people in our niche will keep ignoring it anyway.
What actually happened
Yandex tightened its detection of thin content and unedited AI text. It used to work like this: you throw a pile of AI-generated articles together, paraphrase them a bit, upload — and it flies. Now it's 99% detection accuracy. That's not "maybe you'll get lucky" anymore. That's "you almost certainly won't."
Sites with real value, checked by an actual expert, will get more traffic. Sites full of filler, doorway pages, and text stuffed around a keyword will lose rankings. And it's happening in stages — this isn't a one-time hit, it's an ongoing process.
Why this hurts especially bad in iGaming and affiliate
Our niche lived on volume for years. A thousand pages of "best casinos in city N," generated from a template with the city name swapped in — that used to work. Used to.
I've seen it dozens of times: someone builds a network of sites, pushes traffic through sheer quantity instead of quality, and for a while it flies. Then an update lands, and it all collapses in a week. That doesn't mean the scheme was stupid. It means it was temporary. Anything built on a gap in the algorithm, instead of on value for the reader, eventually gets shut down.
Same logic applies here as in any long game business: give value first, get traffic later. Not the other way around.
What to actually do
No need to reinvent anything — Yandex told you straight up what matters:
Content needs to be checked by a human, not just dumped out of a neural network. AI as a speed tool — fine. AI as an author with no editing — no. The difference is huge: one multiplies your expertise, the other multiplies garbage.
An "expert" actually has to be an expert. If you're writing about betting, slots, or casinos — show where your knowledge comes from. Personal experience, breakdowns of game mechanics, honest operator reviews based on real criteria — not text rewritten from three other sites.
Doorway pages and content built purely around a keyword are a direct route downward. If a page exists to rank for a phrase rather than to answer a person, it's first in line to get hit.
Stop trying to leech off someone else's authority. Placing your content on domains of shut-down organizations, or riding someone else's reputation as a crutch — that's exactly what gets caught with 99% accuracy now.
The pivot to make right now
If you're running a network of thin sites, treat this as a warning bell, not a reason to panic. You've got time, because the rollout is staged. Use that time not to invent a new way around the algorithm, but to actually build up E-E-A-T: expertise, authoritativeness, trust.
It takes longer than cranking out a hundred AI pages in one evening. But it doesn't burn down with the next update.
